In 5th grade, the kids have been learning about jobs, money, banks and what it means to be grown-up. Each student received a checking account and check book to learn about deposits and withdrawls, filled out applications for jobs and then put that learning to good use at JA City, a mock town where the kids work their jobs, deposited their paycheck, spent JA City money and had town meetings. I was able to volunteer for the day and let me say, WOW! The "city" is a full functioning city with government, bills, invoices, payroll, etc. It was so great to watch the kids become adults and help them navigate their way through a day of work. I was exhaused at the end of the day!
Next up was earning 5 Weblo pins at the last pack meeting! Stephen is on his way to earning his Arrow of Light award just in time for this 11th birthday in May. Way to go buddy!
All year long Stephen has been busy every Wednesday morning & after school on Safety Patrol. He monitors his assigned post making sure kids are safe & following rules on the playground. You might even catch him helping with crosswalks, helping kids safely across the driving paths. What a good kid!
